In the 15 starts of his first season, Count Fleet was never out of the money. He set a track record in the Champagne and equalled the track record in the Pimlico Futurity. He also won the Walden by 30 lengths and was named Champion 2-year-old.

Count Fleet's best season came at 3. After winning the Wood Memorial, he took the Triple Crown races easily under jockey, John Longden. Count Fleet won the Kentucky Derby by 3 lengths, the Preakness by 8, and the Belmont by 25.

During the spring Count Fleet also won the Withers. When the season ended he was named Champion 3-year-old and Horse of the Year.

Count Fleet stood at Stoner Creek Stud until his retirement in 1966. He sired 38 stakes winners, including champions Counterpoint, Kiss Me Kate, One Count and Count Turf. Count Fleet was America's leading sire in 1951 and leading broodmare sire in 1963.

Count Fleet was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1961.
